Items, Types & Duration

What you can put in a playlist, how long each item plays, and what the health badges mean.

A manual playlist is a list of items. Each item is exactly one of three kinds. Click Add content in the editor to add them.

Images and videos from your Media Library, and PDFs and Office documents that have been processed for playback. The Media tab of the Add dialog lets you search, filter by type (Images & video, Images, Videos, Documents, Audio, Playable), narrow by folder or tag, and select several files at once. Tick Show individual slides to pick single slides from a presentation.

Any layout in your workspace. Choose how long to show it before the playlist moves on.

A web page. Enter the URL, an optional Display name, and a duration. Only http:// and https:// addresses are accepted. The player loads the page full screen, so make sure the site allows being displayed and is reachable from the player’s network.

The Add dialog has an Insert choice:

  • At end (default)
  • After selection
  • Replace selection
ItemDefault duration
Image10 seconds
VideoThe video’s own length
Layout30 seconds, set when you add it
Web link10 seconds, set when you add it
DocumentThe duration set when it was processed, otherwise 10 seconds

Change any duration afterwards in the timeline. The loop length shown in the header is the sum of all durations, and the playlist then starts again from the first item.

Give an item an Expires date to stop it playing after that day, which is ideal for promotions. Expired items are skipped at playback and show an Expired badge in the editor. Media files can also carry their own expiry in the library, which removes them from every playlist that uses them.

Playlists with expired items are flagged Needs attention in the list.

Every item shows a health badge:
