Supported Hardware
What to run the Stratos player on, and what to look for in a display and a media player.
The Stratos player runs on small computers connected to ordinary displays. You don’t need special signage screens, but choose hardware that suits how many hours a day it will run.
Player platforms
Section titled “Player platforms”| Platform | Requirements |
|---|---|
| Linux player | A 64-bit x86 computer (a mini PC or similar), running Debian 12 or the Stratos player OS. Automatic updates. |
| Android TV / Google TV | A TV or box running Android TV or Google TV with Android 9 or newer. |
Not sure what to buy? Ask your OTS Signs account manager about ready-to-install options.
What the computer needs
Section titled “What the computer needs”- Network: wired Ethernet is strongly recommended. Wi-Fi works, with a decent signal. See Network Requirements.
- Storage: enough free space to cache the media your screen plays. Screens that rotate a lot of video need more than screens showing a few images, so allow generous headroom.
- Video output: HDMI (or DisplayPort) matching your screen. Hardware video decoding makes 1080p and 4K video smooth.
- Power: runs 24/7. Use a reliable supply, and consider a surge protector.
Choosing a display
Section titled “Choosing a display”| Consider | Why |
|---|---|
| Resolution | 1080p (1920×1080) suits most content. 4K (3840×2160) is supported. Set the screen’s resolution in Screen Settings. |
| Orientation | Portrait works. Mount it rotated, then set Rotation to 90° or 270°. |
| Brightness | Choose a high-brightness panel for windows and bright rooms. |
| Duty cycle | Commercial panels are rated for long hours. Consumer TVs may not be. |
| Overscan | Some TVs crop the edges. Turn on a “Just Scan” or “Screen Fit” mode. |
Before you buy
Section titled “Before you buy”- Confirm the platform above.
- Test one unit with your own content for a few days.
- Check network requirements with your IT team.
- Plan power, mounting and cabling.
